Review of Freakonomics and Super Freakonomics
- BottleButea
I read Freakonomics
in the recommendation of my economics professor. The topics presented in Freakonomics were indeed pretty unique. Analysis
of different situations in society were conducted through the lenses of an
economist.
The same energy was carried over by the authors in the book Super Freakonomics. However, I found it
less concerned with economics and more concerned with glazing people and new
technologies that have come to be over the years, especially the later chapters
of the book. This did not sit well with me. Most of the content in both Freakonomics and Super Freakonomics were, in my opinion, not relevant.
However, the author at early in the book made us aware of
the lack of unifying theme in the text, it still did not sit right with me when
more of the words were spent understanding techs, advancements or people behind
it then actually analyzing what was actually going on.
At the end, although there were some interesting analysis
and research in the book, I did not find the book worth recommending to someone
who wants to truly understanding economic choices. Keep in mind that I am nowhere
near to an expert, even the tittle of beginner is flattery to me. However,
maybe because of my lack of knowledge itself I found the book, perhaps Super Freakonomics more than Freakonomics, closer to a infomatric book then a econometric book.
